Josh & Dan Benson. Two Dorset brothers who started their own business partnership in 2018 and run the the oldest blueberry plantation in the UK.
The Blueberry Field and neighbouring Camellia Nursery have been around for a long time and seen many years together.
However it is since Josh & Dan have teamed up to bring it up to speed with the present day and add some new life and character to the space in order for it to thrive once more.
Brothers Dan & Josh Benson started their business partnership in January 2018 at the Trehane Blueberry Farm in Dorset. Prior to this Josh had single – handedly run the Blueberry Pick Your Own for 4 years and had built up a good customer base although through a very limited season.
They decided to expand the business into cut – flowers to utilise the garden area and meet the needs of an ever – growing market for specialist wedding flowers. After a great first season of trialling the cut-flowers alongside the Trehane Blueberry PYO, the momentum is carried forward and they are very proud to have launched Brothers Farm Flowers in May 2019.
In 2019, the Brothers approached us as an opportunity had arisen to purchase the land and buildings from which the farm operated, as the owner had decided to retire after many years. Not only was the land for the blueberries and flowers included but also another specialist business of Camellias.
We were successful in sourcing outline funding terms to enable them to purchase the land and buildings to really stake a claim and push on grow a sustainable business.
Now in their 3rd growing season, they know a lot more about what grows well on their patch and have tripled the amount of flowers we are growing. To accompany the flowers, they have renovated the old potting barn into our flower shop/cafe so that anyone can come to buy seasonal fresh cut-flowers from June to August whilst having a coffee, flapjack & a nose around too!
It has been an absolute pleasure working with these guys and helping them to go from strength to strength.
